About Our Cardiology Department
The Cardiology department at our hospital was developed to respond to different needs and pathologies, with groups dedicated to the treatment of outpatient heart failure, to the control of implanted devices, to the control of patients with ischemic heart disease and genetic pathologies with particular reference to hypertrophic heart disease, dilated or channelopathies. The high number of hospitalizations and procedures carried out has allowed us to become a research and advanced training center for doctors and technicians, making us an avant-garde center for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
Cardiology treatment typically involves lifestyle modifications, pharmacologic therapy, and medical procedures. Lifestyle modifications may include exercise and changes to diet that can reduce cholesterol, improve blood pressure and manage weight. Pharmacologic therapy may include anti-platelet drugs, anti-coagulants and cholesterol reducing drugs such as statin medications. Procedure may include angioplasty and stenting to open blocked coronary arteries, and implantation of a pacemaker or defibrillator to treat arrhythmias. In cases of severe heart failure, treatments may include medications such as digoxin and diuretics, and surgical procedures such as bypass surgery and valve replacements.
